Tenor Nicholas Huff has been hailed for his "Vocal and dramatic fearlessness” (Voix des arts) in leading roles across the country. Highlights include Rodolfo in Pocket Opera’s La Boheme which won ‘Best Opera Performance’ in San Francisco Classical Voice’s Audience Choice Awards; Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni with the Florida Grand Opera; Peter Quint in Turn of The Screw; creating the role of Fabian Hart in Jake Heggie's 2019 dark-magical opera, If I Were You, at Merola Opera; Mitch in Florida Grand Opera’s new production of A Streetcar Named Desire; Tamino in Opera Fort Collins’ production of Die Zauberflöte; played Female Emelia in the definitive, Grammy nominated production recording of Carlisle Floyd's final opera, Prince of Players; and as Nemorino in Miami Lyric Opera’s production of L’elisir d’amore, “An authentic bel canto singer […], free, ringing high tones that stopped the show [… and] the melting lyric timbre, beguiling stage personality and theatrical aplomb to dominate the stage.” (South Florida Classical Review).

Last season Mr. Huff could be heard in a role debut as Rodolfo in the beloved Puccini classic, La bohème in San Francisco, in Recitals and concerts as part of the Steans Music Institute at the Ravinia Festival, in Washington National Opera’s new production of Macbeth as Malcolm, in concert with Renée Fleming, Thomas Hampson, and Denyce Graves in WNO’s American Rhapsody, and capping off the year with another Kennedy Center and role debut as Steve ‘Woz’ Wozniak in WNO’s The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, “Huff [delivered] an impassioned indictment of what Jobs had become. Mr. Huff’s strong acting and singing skills on full display.”

Nicholas Can next be heard in concert at Des Moines Metro Opera this summer, where he is also covering the Schoolmaster in The Cunning Little Vixen, then at WNO this fall as the Messenger in Francesca Zambello’s acclaimed production of Aida, appearing in the January American Opera Initiative, The Crucible, and in additional concert and opera engagements to be announced soon.
Mr. Huff has been part of a number of young artist programs, from both the Summer Residency and year-long studio at the Milwaukee Florentine Opera, and the studio at Florida Grand Opera and Sarasota Opera, to Merola Opera’s Young Artist, and Des Moines Metro Opera's Apprentice Artist programs. Nicholas is a member of the Cafritz Young Artists of Washington National Opera, a program of the John F Kennedy Center For the Performing Arts.

From Kenosha WI, Nicholas studied at Carthage College where he earned his BA in Vocal Performance, and the Eastman School of Music where he earned an MM in Vocal Performance & Literature.
